THE BIBLE IN TROUBLED TIMES

Four sessions led by The Revd Canon Dr Trevor Dennis

in St Mary’s Handbridge Centre on
Tuesdays September 24th, October 8th, 15th, 22nd 7:30pm – 9:00pm

Sept 24th: ‘War poems for our times: the serenity of Genesis 1, the searing beauty of Lamentations, and the disturbing lines of Psalm 137.’
Oct 8th: ‘A tale of famine, migration, renewal, empowerment, and, above all, love: the exquisite story of Ruth the Moabite.’
Oct 15th: ‘Is there sexism in the Bible? Undoubtedly. Is there antisemitism in the Bible? Let’s find out.’
Oct 22nd: ‘The last laugh. The Bible can be hilarious: Rachel and Laban; Shiphrah and Puah; Jonah.’

A chance to see famous biblical passages in a new light, to uncover treasures you never knew were there, to address through its pages some of the burning issues of our own day, to face awkward questions about the Bible, and, finally, to enjoy it.

Donations will be invited (a suggested minimum of £5 for each session). Monies collected on Sept 24th and Oct 15th will be given to St Mary’s Handbridge Centre, those collected on Oct 8th and 22nd to Christian Aid. There will be an opportunity to gift aid.

Each session will stand alone, so if you can’t make the whole course, don’t worry. However much you know about the Bible, or think you don’t know, you will be most welcome.
